Dr Wendland is internationally recognized scholar of translation studies, African languages and literature, and literary-poetic analysis, Prof. Wendland has served at Stellenbosch University and held academic and supervisory positions at institutions including the Oxford and Dallas International University. John Guzlowski
Poetry Reader
John Guzlowski is a Polish-American poet, writer, and retired professor of literature and creative writing. Born in 1948 in Germany to Polish parents who had been forced into Nazi slave labour, Guzlowski’s writing is deeply shaped by memory, displacement, war, immigration, and the experiences of his parents’ generation.
He holds a Ph.D. in English from Purdue University and taught contemporary American literature and poetry writing at Eastern Illinois University. His acclaimed books include Language of Mules, Lightning and Ashes, Echoes of Tattered Tongues: Memory Unfolded, and Small Talk: Poems about God, Writing and Me. His work has appeared in literary journals across the United States and internationally, and his honours include the Benjamin Franklin Award for Poetry and the Polish American Historical Association Creative Arts Award. He has also been a columnist for Dziennik Związkowy since 2018.

Madlynn Haber is an American poet, writer, and retired clinical social worker whose work explores memory, family, aging, grief, relationships, identity, and the complexities of human experience. She is the author of Seasons of Sorrow and Joy (Metaphysical Fox Press, 2025) and co-author of Madness, Chaos, and Violence: Therapy with Families at the Brink (HarperCollins, 1991). Her poem “Poems of the Dead” was a finalist for the 2022 Beals Prize for Poetry, and her essay “Fragments of My Father” was nominated for the 2024 Best of the Net.
